Where AI actually quotes.
Not where you advertise.

Reddit threads, Pinterest visual citations, strategic publication mentions — the source types LLMs actually pick up. We bundle this work with AEO engagements only. It's the signal layer that makes citation compounding happen — not a standalone product.

Why bundled, not standalone

Three honest reasons we don't sell Pinterest or Reddit alone.

Most agencies will sell you whatever you ask for. We've found that selling Pinterest or Reddit as standalone services produces clients who feel disappointed in six months — because the work doesn't pay off the way it would inside a real AEO program.

01 / Direct ROI is small

Pinterest and Reddit don't drive much direct revenue.

Pinterest direct traffic for most categories is thin. Reddit users are openly hostile to brand promotion. Sold as direct-response channels, both underperform paid search and paid social by wide margins. We've watched agencies sell them as standalone services and watched clients churn.

If a channel only matters because of its second-order effects, sell the second-order effect.
02 / Citations are the actual value

The reason we work these surfaces is AI citation.

LLMs cite Reddit threads heavily. Pinterest is a visual citation source for image-led queries (recipes, fashion, home, design). Strategic publications get quoted when AI engines need authoritative sources. The work makes sense — but only if the goal is citation, not traffic.

Sold as "social," it's a bad investment. Sold as "signal," it compounds.
03 / Without AEO, signals don't connect

Citation seeds need an entity to connect to.

You can pin 10,000 products and seed Reddit threads for a year — without entity coherence, schema, and content extractability, AI engines can't reliably attach those signals to your brand profile. The seeding work compounds inside a real AEO engagement. Outside one, it's busywork.

A signal needs something to point at — that's the AEO foundation.
What's included

What ships when AEO engagements need a signal layer.

The four streams below get added to AEO engagements when the category supports them — not every category does. We map the right surfaces to your category before any of this work ships.

01 — Pinterest Seeding

For categories where AI engines pull visual citations.

  • Pinterest business profile setup & brand alignment
  • Idea Pins strategy & design (visual-first formats)
  • Strategy boards organized for category authority
  • Product catalog sync (for sellers with shoppable inventory)
  • Pinterest analytics tied back to AEO citation tracking
02 — Reddit Presence

Real comments in real communities. Not spam.

  • Subreddit identification — which communities cite your category
  • Strategic organic comments at regular intervals
  • Long-form contributions where the community supports it
  • AMA coordination for founder-led brands when appropriate
  • Always disclosed, never astroturfed — Reddit knows when you fake it
03 — Strategic Publication Mentions

Get cited where AI engines look for authority.

  • Publication mapping — which sources your category's AI answers come from
  • Guest contributions on high-citation publications
  • Expert quote pitching for relevant journalist briefs
  • Wikipedia mention-building (where merit-based)
  • Brand entity mentions in LLM training-quality sources
04 — Citation Source Tracking

Know when the seeds start landing.

  • Pinterest citation tracking — when AI engines surface your pins
  • Reddit thread tracking for your brand and category
  • Publication mention monitoring
  • Citation-source attribution across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews
  • Quarterly source-of-citation breakdown — which surface produced which result
How this fits in

Where Discovery work lives inside an AEO engagement.

We don't start signal-seeding on day one. The AEO foundation comes first — schema, entity, content extractability. Without that, the seeds have nothing to attach to.

01 Months 1–2

Foundation, before signal.

AEO foundation work runs first. Schema deployment, entity coherence, content restructured for extraction. We also do source mapping in parallel — identifying which subreddits, which Pinterest categories, and which publications matter for your specific category. No seeding yet.

02 Months 2–3

First seeding.

Pinterest profile setup if applicable. Product catalog sync for shoppable inventory. First Idea Pins live. Reddit presence begins — comments at low frequency, no promotional language, building credibility before relevance. First publication outreach goes out.

03 Months 4–6

Compound & track.

Reddit cadence increases as community trust builds. Pinterest organic reach compounds. First publication mentions land. Citation tracking shows whether specific sources are surfacing your brand inside AI engines. We adjust the mix based on what's working.

04 Months 7+

Citation default.

Pinterest pins surfacing in image-led AI answers. Reddit threads cited in conversational AI responses. Publications quoted in AI Overviews. The signal layer is no longer something we're building — it's something we're maintaining and defending. Cadence becomes monthly.

Featured result

10,000+ products synced to Pinterest. Millions of impressions in one month.

A D2C client with a large catalog got a full Pinterest sync — every product individually represented, organized into category boards, optimized for discovery. Inside one month, the impressions ran to multiple millions across the catalog. We don't usually quote impression numbers — but in this case the impression volume is exactly the point: it's the raw signal volume that AI engines need to start surfacing the brand in image-led queries.

We don't sell Pinterest as a marketing channel. We use it as a citation source. The impressions matter only because they're the raw material AI engines pull from when answering visual queries. — ScaleArk operating note

The stack we use to seed and track citation surfaces.

Most of these are platform-native. AI citation tracking is its own discipline — we track Pinterest, Reddit, and publication mentions both inside their native platforms and inside the AI engines that quote them.

Right fit check

Honest about who this is — and isn't — for.

Discovery & Community has the strictest fit list of any service we offer. The signal-only framing means we lose prospects who want pure social media management — which is exactly the result we want. Nobody walks away disappointed in six months.

Right fit

Brands committed to AEO.

  • Brands engaged for AEO (or starting AEO at the same time)
  • Categories where AI engines pull visual or community-based citations
  • Owners willing to commit 6+ months — citation building is genuinely slow
  • Brands with shoppable catalogs (for the Pinterest sync layer to make sense)
  • Founders comfortable with measuring signal, not direct revenue
Not for you

Looking for social media management.

  • Want Pinterest as a standalone service. We don't sell it that way
  • Want Reddit ads or Pinterest ads management — different work, different agencies
  • Want "social media management" with monthly post schedules
  • No AEO engagement and no plan to start one
  • Need direct-response ROI from these channels. The math doesn't work that way
FAQ

Questions every prospect asks about this page.

This page is structured differently from our other service pages — and that creates questions. Here are the ones we get most.

Why don't you sell Pinterest or Reddit standalone?

Because we've watched it not work. Brands engage agencies for "Pinterest marketing" or "Reddit organic," see thin direct ROI for six months, and churn disappointed. The work is real — but its actual value is signal toward AI citation, not direct traffic.

Selling it as a standalone service misrepresents what it does. We'd rather not run a service that disappoints clients honestly. So we offer it bundled with AEO, where the seeds compound, or not at all.

Is this the same as social media management?

No. Social media management is content scheduling, community moderation, and engagement metrics — usually with the goal of brand awareness or customer service.

What we do is signal seeding for AI citation. Different goal, different work, different measurement. If you want a monthly content calendar with scheduled posts and engagement reports, hire a social media agency. We're not that.

What's the actual ROI of this work?

Compound, not direct. The ROI shows up inside AI citation tracking — your brand surfacing in AI answers when previously it didn't, your products appearing in AI-generated visual results, your category authority compounding through mentions in publications LLMs trust.

If you measure success in AI citation rate (not Pinterest impressions or Reddit upvotes), the ROI is real and measurable. If you measure in direct revenue attributed to Pinterest clicks, the ROI is poor. That's why we don't sell it that way.

Can I run AEO without Discovery & Community?

Yes — and many AEO clients do. The signal layer makes citation compounding faster and broader, but it's not strictly required. Your category determines whether it makes sense.

We tell you on the AEO audit call whether your category has the surface area for Discovery work to add real value. Sometimes the honest answer is "your AEO engagement doesn't need this — save the budget."

What about Pinterest ads or Reddit ads?

Different work entirely. Pinterest ads are a paid acquisition channel, run by our paid advertising team if it makes sense for the category. Reddit ads exist but rarely make economic sense for D2C — Reddit users famously hostile to ads.

What we do here is organic seeding for AI citation, not paid acquisition. They're separate engagements, separate teams, separate goals.

Do you guarantee my brand will get cited?

No. AI citation depends on factors no agency controls — model training cycles, retrieval changes, source availability when a user prompts. Anyone guaranteeing citations is either inflating expectations or misunderstanding the discipline.

What we promise is the work that makes citation more likely: signal seeded in the right surfaces, tracked in the right tools, adjusted based on what's actually landing.

How do you measure success?

Two layers. First — surface-level metrics inside Pinterest, Reddit, and publication channels (impressions, comments, mentions). Second — citation tracking inside AI engines, attributing back to which source produced which citation.

Reports come quarterly inside the AEO engagement, not as a separate Discovery report. The work and the measurement are integrated.

Ready when you are

Considering AEO? Discovery is part of it.

We don't sell Discovery & Community as a standalone audit, because we don't sell the work standalone. If you're considering AEO, we'll tell you on the audit call whether your category supports a signal layer — and what it would include.
